Private investigations and vehicle location in Panama, within the law
Before collecting a debt, signing with a partner or starting a legal proceeding, private investigations help you learn more about a person, their assets or a vehicle. This guide explains what can be lawfully investigated in Panama, what cannot, and how the results are delivered.
Updated:
What are private investigations for?
- Checking a future partner, tenant, supplier or key employee.
- Locating assets before a collection or a lawsuit.
- Gathering information for a legal proceeding, together with your lawyer.
- Locating a vehicle in leasing, financing or collection cases.
What can be lawfully investigated?
The investigation relies on legitimately accessible sources: public registries such as the Public Registry of Panama, published information, documents provided by the client and lawful field checks. This can show, for example, which companies a person appears in, which assets are registered in their name or where a vehicle is.
What we do not do
- Intercept communications, access other people's accounts or devices, or obtain protected banking information.
- Seize or repossess vehicles ourselves: recovery is done through the appropriate legal channel.
- Investigate for harassment, discrimination or other unlawful purposes.
Vehicle location
When a financed or leased vehicle stops being paid for, or is part of a legal proceeding, locating it is the first step. With the vehicle's details and documents proving your legitimate interest, such as the contract, we locate it and deliver a report. The vehicle must then be recovered through legal channels, usually with your lawyer.
How are the results delivered?
You receive a confidential report with the findings, the sources consulted and, where applicable, supporting documents such as Public Registry certificates. We handle the information discreetly and only for lawful purposes.
